The History of a Legend
A country legend was born on April 14, 1932 in the small town of Butcher Holler, Kentucky. She was named in the honor of Loretta Young. Her born name was Loretta Webb. Her parents Melvin "Ted" Webb & Clara Marie (Ramey) Webb had 8 children and Loretta was the second born child to coalminer, farmer, and a storekeeper. Loretta's mother was half Cherokee Indian & Scottish descent.
Fact #1- Loretta's sister is Crystal Gayle.
Fact #2- Loretta is distantly related to Patty Loveless on her mothers side of the family.
Fact #3- Loretta had twin girls & named them Peggy & Patsy. One of them was named after "Patsy Cline" which one do you think? Just kidding...
Fact #4- Loretta has only been married once. She was married to Oliver Vanetta Lynn also known as "Doolittle" who passed away in 1996. Wow! 48 year marriage....
Fact #5- Loretta has 3 siblings that tried to make it in the music business. Her brother Jay Lee Webb, sister Peggy Sue, and sister Crystal Gayle.
Loretta Lynn has a ranch house in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee which can be toured and typically has different festivities during different times of the year. I actually stumbled upon this during a trip I planned to go canoeing on Buffalo River about 6 years ago. This is when I lived in Nashville, TN.
Fact: Loretta Lynn's Ranch is voted as "The 7th Largest Attraction in Tennessee" It has musuems, a recording studio, lodging, and other attractions. It also has a replica of her Butcher Holler cabin she grew up in like the one in Kentucky. She moved out of the plantation home after a fall which injured her shoulder and required surgery.
Interesting Fact: Lynn's plantation home is also haunted and was checked out by the "Ghost Whisperer" In fact, conclusions led to spirits living in the house and a lot of blood shed in and around the premises. It makes you wonder if a ghost pushed her down the stairs......
Loretta Lynn's oldest son "Jack Benny Lynn" drowned behind the house trying to fork the Duck River at only the age of 34.
Loretta Lynn has truly lived a remarkable and impressive life. She has won numerous awards such as 4 Grammy Awards, 8 Broadcasts Music Awards, 7 American Music Awards, and 10 Academy of Music Awards.

- Loretta Lynn was the first woman named "Entertainer of the Year" by the Country Music Association in 1972.

"Coal Miners Daughter" movie was actually based on an autobiography book, Loretta Lynn actually wrote in 1976 which was a "best-selling book" which turned into a 'Academy Award Winning Film" In this 1980 hit movie it starred "Tommy Lee Jones" and "Sissy Spacek" most of you out there probably seen this movie....If not, I recommend you check it out!

Love this hub!! She has always been my favorite and I have been to her home in Hurricane Mills. Really awesome place to visit. The wrought iron over the steps leading up to her house says, "Coal Miners Daughter."
