Serenity Pond

Create Your Own Fantasy Pond!

Have you been thinking of creating something really beautiful in your yard? Now, you can & listed below are tips to get your ball rolling! All it takes, is a little inspiration, know how, & a little money! Once, you have used your on hands to create this magnificent work of art, well......your heart will be filled with serenity! Let's get started my friend....

Building A Serenity Pond:

Obviously, the first step is starting from the bottom to top!

  • 1st of all..."Cover" & structure is the key element for holding fish!
  • You have to create a mound & a dropoff! No need to worry about peninsulas, inlets, & islands. These are things you need for a successful lake. All, you need for a pond is a mound & little structure.......
  • The bottom of the pond should have a hump & sorta of a berm.
  • The more you think like a fish while preparing it's new environment the better the results!
  • Ask yourself this, "Does the fish have a place to hide?" Now, your cooking!
  • Fish, especially, Bass! They love to ambush their prey.....They also need a place to spawn. Without a place to spawn, it is nothing but a hole filled with water. You have to consider their needs & tactic for re-producing & developing into strong, big, & healthy bass. Depends on what type of fish you want to stock in your pond & if any at all!
  • You should build part of the bottom with rocks &/or tree stumps. I prefer you use flat stones   or cinder blocks as well to create a form outline for these critters. This also makes a great holding place for bluegill or bream.
  • You can also fill up 5 gallon buckets halfway & fill with ready mix cement & once dried, drop em' buckets in there......They will need to be within 2 to 10 feet deep.
  • You will need at least a 7 foot dropoff on one side of the pond! Deeper is better but a minumum of 7 foot!
  • Last step! Fill this bad boy with some water & create a filtration system to aeriate the pond & keep good oxygen flowing in there.....Once your pond is holding water, you can add some lily pads. You can get creative & build a bridge or whatever you want to add to your serenity pond! Now, start adding some bream or blue gills to the pond & 2 weeks later add some small largemouth or smallmouth bass to the pond. A natural force of nature should take place. Throw some crickets &/or a bucket of minnows in there once a week & your ready to see results. After this pond has been there a few years, Whew! Look to catch some big bass! However, you can just stick some goldfish in there & have your own serenity pond for looks!

This is a serenity place to fish &/or just relax by & enjoy for many days of your life!

Hope you enjoyed & decide to build your own place of serenity!

That's a very nice looking pond in the picture, and it would be lovely to be able to create one similar to it.

7 feet! Whoah, that's a big pond! My brother-in-law has a large property and dug a HUGE pond, stocking it with bass and blue gill just as you suggested. He can't wait for them all to grow and enjoys feeding them. It's a beautiful pond.

I would love a pond, even a small one but think I'd come out to find my malamutes swimming in it - at least one of them....probably eating the fish as well. Sounds delightful though. For now, I guess I'll have to stick with the little plastic pool for the Griffster.

Well, you can go deeper & wider! That was just an example for a small pond & the deepest side should be about 7 feet to give Bass a place to hide. However, if someone builds one for looks, there is no need to go that deep! Hope his pond does well & thanks for stopping by Dolores Monet!

That's a good point akirchner! A person who has dogs that love to swim may be in for trouble. I had a Lab that would jump in mud puddles....Thanks for stopping by......

Thanks for the post! I always admire people's serenity ponds in their yards or office buildings that are full of fish life and lily pads. It's so beautiful. Are there specific pond stocking companies to get the fish at, or do you just buy fish at the pet store? www.seponds.com
