The Art of Making Native American Jewelry

Ancient Indian Tribes have been making beautiful jewelry since the beginning of time! Listed below are helpful instructions on creating amazing jewelry that you can be very proud of & feel connected to the pieces you display on your body....

Things To Gather:

  • Wire Cutter
  • Bead Board
  • Silver Clasps
  • Nylon Flexible Wire or Tigertail (Not a real tiger tail) Beware of chasing tigers!
  • Good quality Turquoise Beads
  • Jump Ring (It is a popular connector for jewelry making & comes in silver, gold, brass, base metal, silver plated, and coated colored. It ranges from $1.50 to $3.00 a package usually of 100 pieces.)
  • Crimping Pliers
  • Bead Board (This is used to design necklaces & usually measure about 10" x 13" because typically, the length of a necklace will be about 28" in length.)
  • Matching seed beads (Optional)

Now, your all set & ready to go!!!!

Instructions: (5 Step Process)

  1. Alright, you will need to choose your design for the necklace. This is where you will need that Bead Board mentioned above....Figure out the length you would like your necklace.
  2. Get out your Tigertail or your wire & which should be cut to the length of the necklace you decided on....
  3. Take your silver clasp & from one end of the wire, slide it on through the loop. The wire that is now attached to the clasp, slide this to the crimp bead. slightly tighten the wire, now, flatten the the crimp bead into the wire with the crimping pliers. This will hold everything in place & if you have any extra wire hanging off, cut it off!
  4. Now, your getting to the good stuff! Use your turquoise gemstone beads & string them on the wire or tigertail. You should probably use your matching beads to space the gemstones for a better presence of the gemstones which you want to stand out! (Optional, after all this your taste preference!)
  5. Great! Now, your on the final step of your masterpiece jewelry......This is where the "Jump Ring" comes into play! Take the other end of your necklace & resort back to step 3 & put your necklace on by attaching the silver clasp to the jump ring.

Note:

If you are wanting to put a centerpiece as a pendent, you will want to put that centerpiece on first & then just string your other beads on each side! (A bunch of people use arrowheads & bear claws for the centerpiece pendant but I like to use a good chunk piece of turquoise or some type of unique rock piece.)

Places to Find Your Tools:

Your all set & ready to make beautiful Native American Jewelry! You can even make extra money selling these masterpieces with different places of business.

Hope this was a helpful hub for assisting with your jewelry making!!!!

Thanks!
