One of the Greatest Country Female Artist
During the mid to late 1980's, K.T. Oslin was huge!!! She is still one of my all time favorites of all the female artists in the country music business. Listed below are the facts and interesting things to know about her great talent......
Brief History:
Kay Toinette Oslin had a series of top-ten country hits in the 80's. She was initially a folk singer with Guy Clark. She left & moved to New York to do Broadway & Off Broadway shows. She did numerous advertising jingles and appeared in quite a few T.V. commercials. This gal has accomplished the following;
Facts:
- Dottie West, Sissy Spacek, Gail Davies, & The Judds all have what in common? They all recorded songs written by K.T.
- "Round The Clock Lovin" was produced by Gail Davies & made her 1st Top 10 Hit. A song K.T. had writtten & it went big!
- K.T. has released 7 studio albums.
- She has had 15 "Billboard" country chart singles.
- A self-penned song, "80's Ladies" was a breakthrough & a Top-Ten Single. She would go on to win a "Grammy Award" and received song of the year by "Country Music Association" in 1988.
- Have you ever seen the movie "White Palace"? Well, her song, "Younger Men" appeared in the movie & on the soundtrack. James Spader and Susan Sarandon starred in this movie.
- K.T. Oslin took the route of acting in the early 1990's. She has played roles with Burt Reynolds in "Evening Shade" and "Paradise". She also co-starred with River Phoenix & Sandra Bullock in the movie "The Thing Called Love".
- To my surprise, in 2002, she ranked #37 in the "CMT's 40 Greatest Women in Country Music"
K.T. Oslin has won numerous awards from "Academy of Country Music", "Country Music Association", & "Grammy Awards". Here is some of her biggest hit songs, some you may be familiar with & if not, definitely, download or go out and buy her cd's.
- 80's Ladies
- This Woman
- Hold Me
- Come Next Monday
- Do Ya
- I'll Always Come Back
- Hey Bobby
- Mary and Willie
- Didn't Expect it to Go Down This Way
- Younger Men
Unfortunately, K.T. Oslin only performs for various charitable events and music-related events after retiring from the road tours. I have always loved her style and music. She had a coronary artery bypass surgery in 1995 but recovered well...Her last album, as far as, I know was released in 2001 called "Live Close By" which was produced by "Raul Malo". She now resides in Nashville, Tennessee but still considers Houston, Texas her home. She was born in Crossett, Arkansas but shortly after her birth, her family moved to Memphis, Tn & the to Houston, TX. She was born on May 15th in 1942.
K.T. Oslin is still the "Diva" of Country Music!
Check her out if you don't know her already & you'll see that she is one tough lady! You can also find out more about her on www.cmt.com
