The World Record LargeMouth Bass Tied In Japan
64Record Bass
Who Knew?
It has been predicted for some time that the new record for the largest bass would probably came out of California......Guess What? It came from Japan!
Congratulations! to Manabu Kurita's catch out of the Lake Biwa. (This is an acient spot on the reservoir northeast of Kyotto.)
Facts:
- George Perry of Georgia held the record for the largest Bass in the world for 77 years.
- The "IGFA" has been waiting this long to see the next record bass.
- The record bass was caught on September 19th of 2009.
- Any Bass caught outside of the U.S. has 90 days to submit their application for review with the "IFGA".
- The former largest bass was caught in Montgomery Lake near Jacksonville, Georgia on June 2nd in 1932.
- Millions of Bass Anglers have been trying to do this for 77 years. Even, the pros haven't achieved this one yet...
- Kurita did have to conduct a polygraph test this past December regarding the catch!
- This is stated to actually be tied with George Perry's record...
- The actual weight was 22 pounds & 4.97 ounces............. (The length was 27.2 & girth about 26.7 inches.)
- Most Experts state that a record bass can creat about $1 miliion dollars in revenue for that person due to appearance fees & endorsement fees. (must be nice!)
A little about Kurita:
- Kurita is from Aichi, Japan and is age 32.
- Kurita was using a Shimano Antares DC7LV Reel & with a Deps Sidewinder Rod with 25lb Toray test line the day of the monster bass catch.....
- Kurita was using a live blue gill for bait & throwing around a bridge piling, it was the 1st cast, with a couple of twitches, & BAM!!!!! It took Kurita about 3 minutes of fighting till he got that big monster in the boat.
From one Bass Angler to another........My hat goes off to Manabu Karita!!!!!!!!!
Great Job!

Wow! I caught one on False River, Louisiana, that weighed almost 5 pounds when I was a kid, and it seemed pretty big.
Great Hub especially for the anglers to droll over...I fish the Bow River here in Canada and it is out my back door and it is ranked as one of the top fisheries in the world.
I have taken many 27-28 inch Brown Trout and many of the same for Rainbow etc.
Great Hub...blessings
Wow! Huge fish. Great hub.
